Music on Thursdays

Welcome to the Music on Thursdays home page. Music on Thursdays brings 12.30 lunchtime concerts to Leatherhead for the Summer and Autumn months each year.

Our performers are mostly current students of the Royal Academy of Music or recent graduates of London's internationally renowned music colleges.

In 2012, our first year, alongside the traditional repertoire we had the good fortune to host a number of world premières of works and arrangements written by our players and by other young composers.

We look forward to another year of excellent performances of the familiar, the contemporary, and a few rare finds.

The Venues - LMC & Christ Church

Leatherhead Methodist Church - LMC

Music on Thursdays' 2013 season will take place in the comfortable recital room surroundings of Leatherhead Methodist Church. LMC is close to the town centre, in the one-way section of Church Road. The nearest car park is the "pay & display" behind the Parish Church Hall - just a minute's stroll from LMC.

The church is an easy five-minute walk from the bus stops in North Street, the Sainsbury multi-storey car park and the coach stops outside it, via the High Street and the passages beside Vecchia Trattoria and the Edmund Tilney public house.

The aerial view and map below show exactly where LMC is:

The Andrews Massey Duo

Picture
Emily Andrews and David Massey are familiar to our audience - they performed in Leatherhead several times last year. They have just released a new CD of their own arrangements of British and Irish folk tunes, titled "...from the roots". They have always included this type of music in their concert repertoire, but as Emily commented:
". . . it's a CD of entirely folk music which is all our own original arrangements. It came just from knowing the tunes, and improvising, rather than any written music (very much in the aural folk tradition). You can read more about it on our website (and listen to a track) http://www.andrewsmasseyduo.com/fromtheroots.html. It's also on itunes, amazon, and spotify, if you're interested to hear more..."

So head over to their website to listen to a sample track and to order Emily and David's new CD: Link to the Andrews Massey Website
