The Netherlands Bach Society is noted for its series "All of Bach".
The origins of this Partita in A minor lie in “playing alone” in a homely setting, as it is the opening work of the second book of music Bach compiled for his wife Anna Magdalena, in 1725.
It is the ideal context for a clavichord. The music itself is also looser in form than usual. Not only does the work begin with a Fantasia, but later on there is an unusual Burlesca (from the Italian burlare: making fun of, mocking), with big leaps for the left hand, which is followed by a Scherzo (from the Italian scherzare: fooling around, joking). So, light-hearted fun for at home.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on May 12th 2018 at the Bartolotti House, Amsterdam. This recording was made possible by the support of Stichting Elise Mathilde Fonds.
All of Bach is a project of the Netherlands Bach Society, with the aim to perform and record all of Bach's works and share them online with the world for free.
The performer is Menno van Delft:

We opened with Emil Gilels, so let's end our recordings with him too. This is certainly a fine expressive performance. He is not rushed, each movement has its proper space, as does each phrase.
Shortly before he died, Gilels told his wife that the one person he wished he had had the chance to tutor was Evgeny Kissin. Most of the Youtube recordings of Kissin have a lot of background, even this one! Just feel the energy of the first three movements of these Fantasien in this recording. There are plenty more inline for you to discover.
