Capricci Duo
The Capricci Duo was formed in order to explore the musical possibilities offered by the violin and viola format. Alongside established classical repertoire we will be experimenting with new compositions and novel arrangements from across a variety of musical styles. The simplicity of the two instruments together offers a more intimate and direct concert experience.
Capricci: whimsy; a style of music that is free and unhindered by the established rules.
Mackenzie Richards was born in Canada and moved to England to study music. She attended the Royal Academy of Music in London and has since been a busy freelancer working with major orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. As a session musician she has worked on film soundtracks and recorded for pop and jazz music, including a collaboration with the Orient House Ensemble with concerts at Ronnie Scott’s in London and the Brecon Jazz Festival. She currently teaches in London alongside her performing schedule.
Julian Latham studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester and now works with various ensembles including the BBC Concert Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra. His other freelance work has included touring Europe as solo fiddle with Michael Flatley’s show Lord of the Dance and playing for a season with the Indian Symphony Orchestra in Mumbai.

There is also a version by Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman on YouTube. It is not licensed for us to include here, but you can find it by simply putting "Mozart K423" into the YouTube search bar.

Fazil Say (Turkish, b1970)
from 3 Ballads
II Kumru (dove, also his daughter's name) [4:00]
Fazil Say has made several versions of this ballad available for different musicians, and others have made even more arrangements. This arrangement for four cellos is by Yusuf Gençay. The group are called Cello Paradiso and the ladies' names are: Şafak Erişkin, Didem Erken, Gülyar Balcı, and Dilbağ Tokay. Be prepared for Turkish beauty (and delight, too.)
Finally let's listen to Fazil Say himself, at the piano:
