Gwenllian Llŷr
ENGLISH
Welsh harpist Gwenllian Llŷr is known for her charismatic and engaging performances. With prizes too numerous to list, including from the USA International Harp Competition and the Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition, Gwenllian is becoming increasingly in demand as a solo performer.
Her career has already taken her across the globe to perform in prestigious venues alongside renowned artists such as jazz legend Al Jarreau, pianist Imogen Cooper, and international opera singer Bryn Terfel.
Following the successful release of her debut solo album, ‘Dusk to Dawn’, for which her playing was hailed as “magnificent” and “powerful”, Gwenllian toured the UK both in concert venues and in the community as part of her work for the charity Live Music Now. As many a harpist before her, Gwenllian became inspired – largely by her students – to help continue to expand the harp’s repertoire, and some of her pieces are regularly featured on the concert circuit and have been heard on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Cymru.
Gwenllian’s latest work, her own take on that quintessentially Welsh hymn, Calon Lân, featured on her new CD with Ty Cerdd, Soliloquies.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, The Juilliard School and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Gwenllian is enjoying a busy and varied freelance career.
CYMRAEG
Mae’r delynores Gymreig Gwenllian Llŷr yn adnabyddus fel perfformiwr carismatig a
cherddorol. Wedi ennill gwobrau di-rif, gan gynnwys yng Nghystadleuaeth Rhygnwladol Telyn yr UDA a Chystadleuaeth Flynyddol y Royal Over-Seas League, mae Gwenllian mewn galw fel perfformiwr unawdol.
Mae ei gyrfa eisioes wedi ei harwain ar draws y byd i berfformio mewn lleoliadau mawreddog gydag artistiaid adnabyddus, megis Al Jarreau, Imogen Cooper,Rebecca Evans, Matthew Rees a Bryn Terfel.
Cafodd Gwenllian lwyddiant wrth ryddhau ei halbwm gyntaf, ‘O Wyll i Wawr’, gan dderbyn clod am ei pherfformio “pŵerus” a “godidog”, a bu hi ar daith o gwmpas Prydain yn perfformio cyngherddau cyhoeddus ac fel rhan o’i gwaith gyda’r elusen Live Music Now. Yn dilyn esiampl nifer o delynorion cynt, cafodd Gwenllian ei hysbrydoli gan ei myfyrwyr i gyfranu i lyfrgell y delyn, ac mae rhai o’i chyfansoddiadau yn cael eu perfformio’n rheolaidd mewn cyngherddau ac wedi eu clywed ar BBC Radio 3 a BBC Radio Cymru.
Mae cyfansoddiad diweddaraf Gwenllian, sef ffantasi ar un o emynau amlycaf Cymru, Calon Lan, i’w glywed ar ei CD newydd gyda Ty Cerdd, Ymsonau.
Fel un a raddiodd o’r Royal Academy of Music, The Juilliard School a Choleg Brenhinol
Cerdd a Drama Cymru, mae Gwenllian yn mwynhau gyrfa prysur ac amrywiol.
