Buck Brass was formed by graduates of the Royal Academy of Music and has rapidly become one of the leading young Chamber Ensembles in the UK. The Trio has a busy performance and recording schedule having performed in prestigious venues including HM Treasury, London Guildhall, St James's Piccadilly, Lambeth Palace, Southwark Cathedral, 1901 Arts Club, and the Carlton Club.
Members of the ensemble have enjoyed considerable experience working with ensembles such as the Royal National Orchestra of Scotland, London Sinfonietta, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharnonic orchestra and alongside renowned conductors including Semyon Bychkov, Marin Alsop and Sir Mark Elder.

Our Independence Day concert opens with Eric Ewazen's Philharmonic Fanfare, played here by the same combination as we will be hearing at the concert, the trumpet horn and trombone of Wenham Street Brass, performing in Duxbury, Massachusetts:

On the left is the shorter version sung by the famous Mills Brothers.
On the right is a historic recording of Mahalia Jackson who emotionally dedicates her performance to Louis Armstrong. Oh yes. One more thing to say about this recording. Louis Armstrong joins Mahalia and brings the house down, of course:

The major work in today's concert, Bernofsky's Trio is performed here by the Aeris Trio, Sofa Siora, trumpet Christos Salvanos, horn and Andreas-Rolandos Theodorou, trombone. They are playing in the Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece:

I have chosen a marching band on the left and a concert band on the right. You can choose which you'd prefer to listen to (or try both, of course). The Sydney Tongan SDA Brass Band are surprisingly good, and the sound on this street recording is OK too. (I've looked up SDA - it means Seventh Day Adventist).

Have you ever wondered what happens to military musicians when they retire? I can't answer for the US of A, but I can tell you that the London College of Music runs courses for retiring members of the Guards' bands, preparing them for life in other ensembles and orchestras, as session players, and as teachers.

I don't know what kind of treatment we will be hearing, but hear to whet your appetite is a performance by Keith and Kristyn Getty.
I have added the organist on the right, who is Richard Elliott, Principal Tabernacle Organist, Temple Square, Salt Lake City, because he starts off pedals only - and it is quite amazing to see.

We gave the US Army a turn eaerlier, so here I have selected the US Navy Band to play The Stars and Stripes Forever:
It is so very easy to get side-tracked when selecting these recordings. This week's major distraction brings us back to our home shores. Christopher Bill is again involved in a multi-track-multi-screen performance. You will hear 28 trombonists, performing during the International Trombone Festival (yes, they have one!) in 2018.
