Lucy Driver
Lucy Driver, 22, (pictured left, or above on smartphones) is a flute player and scholarship holder at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Having previously studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Robert Winn.
Lucy moved to London in 2019 to continue her Undergraduate degree at the Academy with Katherine Baker. Further to her studies, Lucy has attended many international summer schools and masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Emily Beynon, Trevor Wye, William Bennett, Denis Bouriakov and Paul Edmund-Davies.
Lucy’s main passion lies in orchestral playing, of which she has a wide range of experience. Lucy started her orchestral career as a member of the National Youth Orchestra, playing at prestigious international music festivals such as the BBC Proms and Euro Classic. She now plays with the Royal Academy Symphony and Opera Orchestras, having fulfilled the equivalent positions whilst studying in Cologne.
From her time in Cologne to present, Lucy has worked all around Germany as guest principal flute of the Russian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.
Lucy has competed in many major national and international competitions. In 2016 she reached the Woodwind Final of the BBC Young Musician competition, broadcast on BBC Four. She has also competed to great success at the British Flute Society competitions and gained First Prize at the Chetham’s Flute Festival. Whilst at school, she won a coveted concerto prize, performing Mozart’s D Major Concerto with Chetham’s Chamber Orchestra.

Max Bilbe
Max Bilbe, 23, is a pianist and scholarship holder at the Royal Academy of Music, studying piano accompaniment with Michael Dussek and Joseph Middleton. He attended Chetham's School of Music in 2012, studying piano, composition, and percussion, and then studied an academic degree in music at the University of Manchester in 2017. During his time there, Max performed as a soloist for concerts such as Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto no 5 in October 2019 and was in demand as an accompanist for events at the university and at the Royal Northern College of Music. He frequently appeared as an accompanist for concerts, such as the Sounds Like This festival at Leeds College of Music in March 2020, and was coached in repetiteuring by Martin Pickard whilst at university, which greatly fused his passion for opera. Max graduated with a first-class Honours degree and with several prizes in performance and academia. Since joining the Academy in September 2020, Max has collaborated with many singers and instrumentalists. |
Amidst playing for many other classes, competitions, and concerts, he came highly commended in the English Song competition in October 2020, was selected to perform with a flautist as part of the Academy’s external concert series for February 2021.
He has performed for nine final recital examination performances in May and will appear twice in the Academy’s Transcending Borders series in June.
