Ryan Char
Award-winning American-born Chinese violinist Ryan Char is a native of Seattle, and currently lives in London. He is a charismatic performer with a particular interest in bringing together modern performance techniques with historical performance.
A final year BMus Hon student at the RAM, Ryan is currently studying the violin with Joshua Fisher, previously studying with Rodney Friend, Simon James, and Debra Zadinsky. He is also pursuing a second study in Historical Performance with Nicolette Moonen. Ryan is an avid lover of chamber music, having been a part of multiple award winning chamber ensembles. He looks forward to joining cellist Shannon Ross and pianist Kira Frolu for the 2021/2022 season. This past summer, Shannon and Ryan performed at the Verão Classico Festival and recorded the Ravel Duo Sonata for Violin and Cello. Recently, Ryan has studied with Mihaela Martin at the Verão Classico Academy in Lisbon, Portugal, and Dong Suk Kang and Stephan Picard at the MusicAlp Festival in Tignes, France. Ryan has also appeared at other prestigious festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the Brian Lewis Young Artist Program. |
He has had the pleasure to perform in masterclasses with the likes of György Pauk, Ian Swensen, Masao Kawasaki, Lawrence Power, and others. Outside of violin, Ryan enjoys hiking, photography, and sailing.
Shannon Ross
Shannon Ross is a Mexican American cellist currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music with Josephine Knight. Previously living in Boston, Massachusetts, Shannon was featured on National Public Radio’s From the Top with host, Christopher O'Riley, where she performed with the acclaimed string trio, Time for Three. She also studied at the New England Conservatory as part of their preparatory school. During previous summers, Shannon has attended the Aspen Music Festival where she studied with Darrett Adkins and Eric Kim and played in their top ensembles. This year and the year before, she was invited to Lisbon to participate in Verão Clássico, where she studied with Frans Helmerson and Gary Hoffman. While there, she performed for the Fulbright commission and the US ambassador of Portugal. She currently performs on a cello made by the Rome-based German maker David Tecchler from 1697. |
