The LCAS/Leatherhead Trinity Project
Emily and David, the Andrews Massey Duo, come to us today after a morning performing and demonstrating their instruments to the pupils at Leatherhead Trinity School. We hope to raise enough today to fund both the lunchtime concert and the work with the School. Picture: Leatherhead Trinity School KS1 pupils enjoying Mardi Brass, in June 2016 |
This is the first year LCAS Music on Thursdays has engaged in this kind of outreach work. It is a worthwhile project that our Trustees and our audience of music-lovers are keen to develop.
We are extremely grateful for financial support for the project given by Julie West Solicitor and by a former pupil of the Poplar Road School, one of the schools that merged to form Leatherhead Trinity.

Andrews Massey Duo
Emily Andrews (flautist) and David Massey (guitarist) met in 2009 at the Royal Academy of Music in London while playing in the orchestra for a musical, and they have been playing together as a duo ever since.
The duo is going from strength to strength. Their competition successes include being prestigious Tunnell Trust Award Winners 2012-2013, and three-times semi-finalists in the Royal Overseas League competition. As recitalists they have performed concerts all over the UK, including the top London venues Wigmore Hall, St Martin in the Fields, and St James Piccadilly, as well as abroad in Italy and Sweden. Emily and David play many different styles of music, and like to programme familiar favourites with lesser-known works. They have released three CDs together, "...from the Roots", "Make Merry" and "Stolen Serenades", all of their own arrangements of traditional repertoire from the classical and folk worlds. For more information about this versatile and dynamic duo please see their website: www.andrewsmasseyduo.com |
Emily Andrews, flute
In 2010 Emily Andrews graduated with Distinction from her Masters degree in flute performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Clare Southworth and Kate Hill. An unusual career path: Emily’s first degree was in Mathematics at Cambridge University, and she worked as IT consultant for two years before becoming a full-time musician.
Emily is a passionate chamber musician as well as a soloist. She has performed second flute with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Concert Orchestra and Scottish Opera, among other orchestras, and she has performed recitals in many prestigious UK venues including the Wigmore Hall and St Martin in the Fields, as well as abroad.
Emily's "exquisite phrasing", beautiful singing tone and natural musicality have been noted by many prominent musicians, - Lorna McGhee, Ransom Wilson, Mark Van de Wiel, Neil Black OBE, & William Bennett OBE. The British Flute Society's review of her performance of the Liebermann flute concerto cited Emily as "definitely one of Britain's most promising young professionals".
Her prize-winning flute and guitar duo, the Andrews Massey Duo, recently brought out its third CD. For more information, please visit: www.emilyandrewsflute.com

David Massey, classical guitar
David Massey studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Michael Lewin, receiving both a BMus and MMus with distinction. He has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Sage Gateshead, Royal Albert Hall, St Martin in the Fields, amongst others, and premièred several new works.
In 2006 he became the first guitarist in over twenty years to win the BBC Young Musician strings category. He has a particular interest in transcriptions and collaboration, and has an ongoing duo partnership with flautist Emily Andrews (www.andrewsmasseyduo.com), with whom he has released three CDs. He teaches guitar privately and in schools across North London.
