Carl Jackson
Carl Jackson was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Malcolm Hill and Alan Harverson. He also held organ scholarships at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, and at Downing College, Cambridge where he was a pupil of Peter Hurford. He obtained a postgraduate teaching certificate at Goldsmiths’ College (University of London) before embarking upon a teaching career which, over thirty-five years, has included positions at Hinchingbrooke School, Huntingdon; Whitgift School, Croydon; St Paul’s Girls’ School (Senior Music Teacher and subsequently Organist); and Kingston Grammar School (Director of Music). He currently teaches at King’s College School, Wimbledon where he is also Organist.
Carl was Organist of Croydon Parish Church (now Croydon Minster) from 1986-1990, Sub Organist of the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, from 1990-1993, and Assistant Director of Music at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Square from 1993-1996. In October 1996, he returned again to the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court on his appointment as Director of Music. He has broadcast with the chapel choir on radio and television – notably in the Queen’s Christmas Message 2010, and conducted them in performances with Sir Cliff Richard, Jose Carreras and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. He was Warden (2005-6) of the Music in Education Section of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, and committee member (2001-2014) and subsequently Chairman (2011-2014) of the Grant-Making Committee of the ISM Members’ Fund. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians and has served as Company Steward.
As an accompanist he has worked with Sir Willard White, and with the Elysian Singers of London with whom he appears on their CD of the music of James MacMillian (Signum Records). Distinctions include Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music and of the Royal School of Church Music, and Honorary Fellowship of the Guild of Church Musicians. He was appointed MVO (Member of the Royal Victorian Order) in the 2012 New Year Honours list.

The 2015 Tickell Organ is regularly used for School services and concerts. Today's is only the second public concert on the instrument, after David Briggs presented the Inaugural Concert in February 2016.
The organ was also heard on BBC Radio 3's Choral Evensong in May 2016, when the Girls and Men of Guildford Cathedral Choir broadcast from St John's. The cathedral has been undergoing substantial restoration work.

Our special concert on the 2015 Tickell organ in St John's School Chapel, opens with a JS Bach work
once attributed to JL Krebs but now accepted to be by JSB.
The Fugue on the Magnificat, Meine Seele erhebet den Herrn, BWV 733 is played here by a regular performer in Leatherhead's lunchtime concerts, Mark Brafield, at the organ of the Leonardskirche, Basel, Switzerland:

The next piece is Purcell's Voluntary on Psalm 100, or as we name it 'Old 100th'. Here is John Keys at the 1909 JJ Binns organ in Nottingham Albert Hall - a gift of Jesse Boot, with a case in Spanish walnut made in the Boots & Co shopfitting workshop:
Liszt's Evocation of the Sistine Chapel begins very quietly so you may wish to turn up the volume initially.
On the right our recording is of the distinguished organist Olivier Latry playing an Erard pedal piano.
In the recording on the left we hear the Cavillé-Coll organ in Toulouse's Saint-Sernin Basilica, with organist Xavier Darasse:

Appropriately for August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, we next hear Marcel Dupré's four versets on the hymn Ave Maris Stella. The organist is Jean Paul Imbert, and it looks like he is playing the Carl Leopold Wegenstein 3-manual organ in St George's RC Cathedral, Timisoara, Romania, at the 2016 Timorgelfest:
Not having found William Mathias's Berceuse, here instead is John Peace playing his Chorale (Easter 1966), on the organ in St John the Baptist Church, Tuebrook, Liverpool:
Norwegian organist, pianist and composer Mons Leidvin Takle is a new name to me. Here is his gentle The Heart of Peace. The organist is Marko Hakanpää at the Grönlund organ of St Michael's Church in Turku, Finland:
Nigerian composer Fela Sowande is another new name to me (should I be admitting such extensive ignorance).
He wrote music in the western idiom, with African influences, very much grounded in the Anglican Church liturgy.
You can hear the first 30 seconds of Obangiji here

If you found a mere 30 seconds rather frustrating then let's hear something complete, like Sowande's organ setting of Joshua fit de Battle of Jericho. This is William Craig at the organ of Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau, Wisconsin:
