Ibrahim Aziz
Ibrahim Aziz was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is now based in London. He has performed and collaborated with many distinguished personalities in the classical music world such as soprano Dame Emma Kirkby, harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani, composer Ilan Eshkeri and celebrities Sir David Attenborough and actor Geoffrey Palmer.
Ibrahim is recognised as a specialist in baroque and renaissance performance practice and leads the Baroque and Viol Consort courses at Morley College, London.
He has travelled widely with his viola da gamba performing in famous locations around the world. Some of the most memorable concerts of his career so far include a performance in the BBC Proms with The Rose Consort of Viols, a recital for HRH Prince Charles at Highgrove, various concerts with different groups and ensembles at the Wigmore Hall in London, and a recent appearance at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur.
He is the co-founder of several period instrument groups and, as a member of the Chelys Consort of Viols, The Stanesby Players, The London Abel Quartet and the Rose Consort of Viols, has taken part in more than a dozen highly acclaimed recordings. Ibrahim Aziz's solo CD Risonanze was recently released on the FHR label and is now available worldwide (including after today's concert) and on all online digital platforms.

Yeo Yat-Soon
Yeo Yat-Soon was born in London of Chinese parents. Between the ages of 5 and 18 he lived in Tunbridge Wells, where for many years his father owned a Chinese Restaurant. He attended Claremont Primary School and then the Skinners’ School.
As a teenager he began harpsichord studies with the distinguished harpsichord maker Malcolm Rose who was then based in nearby Mayfield and was given significant encouragement in early music performance by Richard and Katrina Burnett at Finchcocks in Goudhurst.
Yat-Soon went on to study music and historical musicology at King’s College London. He continued with postgraduate studies in harpsichord and conducting at the Guildhall School of Music, during which time he won the prestigious Raymond Russell Prize for Harpsichord.
He performs widely as a soloist, specializing in concerts in historic buildings. Recent venues include Handel House Museum, Craxton Studios, the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace, Strawberry Hill House, Oxford's Holywell Music Room and the Kammersaal Friedenau and Musikinstrumenten-Museum in Berlin.
Yat-Soon also specializes as a baroque opera conductor and has worked with London Baroque Opera, City of London Festival and Opéra de Baugé, for whom he conducted Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea in 2016. He plays with the ensembles Follia, The Stanesby Players and Camerata Berolinensis (Berlin), and has performed regularly at the South Bank and St John’s, Smith Square. He has broadcast for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM radio, and BBC1, BBC 4 and Channel 4 television.
Yat-Soon has had a long association with education, and has been Director of Music at The Lady Eleanor Holles School, Hampton, and St Paul’s Girls’ School, where his predecessors included Gustav Holst and Herbert Howells. He currently teaches harpsichord and chamber music, and lectures on historical performance practice at the Centre for Early Music Performance and Research at the University of Birmingham.
Yat-Soon still very much regards Tunbridge Wells as a spiritual home-town. He first performed at King Charles the Martyr Church in 1988 and has returned on numerous occasions since.

Chaconne & 10 Variations
The Suite is followed by this lovely Chacponne and its variations. Here it is played on a little heard instrument. Anna-Liisa Eller plays the kannel, an Estonian chordphone - or plucked string instrument, a member of the zither family. Other names include Baltic psaltery, and in Russia gusli. Just listen to this beautiful instrument in expert hands:

First, on the left, you can hear the tenor Charles Daniels with the voice and accompaniment original published in the Notebook.
The melody Anna Magdalena wrote down is by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel, from his opera Diomedes, or the Triumph of Innocence.
The other players are Menno van Delft, organ and Fred Jacobs, theorbo.
On the right Willem van Twillert plays the piece on the 1733 AA Hinsz organ in the 12th century St Peters Church (Petruskerk) in Leens, near Groningen, Netherlands.
