Inna Montesclaros
(Ma Regina Montesclaros)
Classical musician Inna Montesclaros is a passionate concert pianist from the Philippines.
An evocative performer, Inna is able to communicate her passion for music and for beauty in the world through her warm musical tone and in-depth understanding. She is comfortable in various capacities as a performer, playing her role as a soloist, a collaborative artist, a chamber musician and an advocate for cross-arts performances.
She finished her Bachelor of Music Degree at the Royal College of Music in London, with Prof Ian Jones and her Master of Arts Degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Prof Ian Fountain. In both endeavors, she was honored to have been awarded scholarships throughout, and finished with Honours and Distinction. She is currently pursuing her Advanced Diploma at the Academy with Prof Fountain.
In recent years, Inna has had opportunities to perform solo concerts in various venues from the Duke’s Hall and St James Piccadilly in London, to the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Embassy in New York City, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila, among many others. In fact, in 2015, she was invited by El Conservatorio de Musica de la Universidad Mayor, through the Philippine Embassy in Chile, to be featured for a solo piano concert in Teatro Municipal de Las Condes in Santiago, for El Temporada Internacional de Musica Clasica, representing her country.
Her commanding soloistic presence has led her to perform with all the leading orchestras in the Philippines, playing notable works of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Mozart and Chopin. In April 2017, she was chosen to perform Beethoven’s epic 5th Piano Concerto Emperor at the Duke’s Hall in London with conductor Jack Wong and the Hornton Chamber Orchestra.
Inna is also a laureate of both national and international music competitions. By age 17 she had won all the renowned Philippine piano competitions as well as competitions in South Korea (Cheonan), Vietnam (Hanoi) and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). More recently, she was awarded Bronze Prize at the Rising Stars Grand Prix Competition in Berlin with her duo partner, Polish violinist Ada Witczyk. And in 2018, she was chosen to participate in the prestigious Georges Enescu International Festival and Competition in Bucharest, Romania.
In her pursuit to deepen her musical knowledge, she has had the pleasure of receiving masterclasses from remarkable musicians such as Richard Goode, Pascal Roje, Imogen Cooper, Sofya Gulyak, Dorian Leljak, Boaz Sharon, and many more. She credits her love of music to her first teachers in the Philippines — Prof Cecile Roxas and Dr Raul Sunico, both of whom are her personal heroes.
A lover of all art forms, she has collaborated with Dutch-American artist Marijke Keyser of the Slade for a multimedia performance (and London debut) of Philippine composer Benjamin Tupas’ Toccata, featuring Keyser’s stop-motion art (an animated-film making technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion when the series of frames is played back as a fast sequence). The performance was held in the piano gallery at the Royal Academy of Music during the 2017 Piano Festival.
She performed Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition with Shadow Art with the same artist in the festival a year later at the Angela Burgess Recital Hall also in London. Inna also performed at the Royal Academy of Art for the Oceania Exhibit with Michael Parekowhai’s Steinway piano Sculpture in December 2018. Inna herself dabbles in painting, favouring watercolours and acrylics in her landscapes and abstract paintings.
In addition to her budding concert career, she is also a generous piano teacher; eager to instill inspiration, diligence and a love for music and the arts.
Currently, Inna is working on her debut recording of Brahms’ Piano Sonata No 3 in F minor and Enescu’s Piano Suite No 2. She is also curating a new concert series for the Ashwell Hall (a hall of residence in Hoxton) and plans to open it in the Autumn of 2019.
