Tailleferre Ensemble . . .
. . . is a new chamber collective founded by Nicola Hands and Penelope Smith, with the aim of promoting women in music. We are a flexible chamber ensemble, performing recitals of differing instrumentation and genre. |
Penelope SmithPenelope Smith graduated with a Masters from @RCMLondon where she won the oboe prize.
She has performed with orchestras such as the London Mozart Players, RTE Concert Orchestra and Brandenburg Sinfonia as well as given solo and chamber music recitals throughout the UK. She co-founded Tailleferre Ensemble in 2019. |
Nicola Hands
Nicola Hands is a busy freelance oboist, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Music Masters programme in 2013 with a Distinction, having won the oboe and cor anglais prizes there.
She was principal cor anglais with Orquestra do Norte and the oboe/cor anglais player for The Light Princess at the National Theatre. She has played with the Philharmonia, RSNO, Birmingham Ballet and Orpheus Sinfonia as a freelancer. She is very active as a soloist and chamber musician, having performed numerous concertos and recitals. In 2019 she co-founded the Tailleferre Ensemble and has released two albums, Light & Shade and Phoenix. |
