Buck Brass

Buck Brass is one of the leading young brass ensembles in the UK, and was formed in 2012 by graduates from London’s Royal Academy of Music.

The ensemble has pioneered a large amount of new repertoire for Brass trio or quartet, including transcriptions of works by Bach, Piazolla, Ibert and Beethoven as well as collaborating with young and established composers. The ensemble has a busy performance and recording schedule having performed in prestigious venues including HM Treasury, London Guildhall, St James's Piccadilly, Lambeth Palace, 1901 Arts Club and the Carlton Club. 

Members of the ensemble have enjoyed considerable experience working with groups such as the Britten-Pears Orchestra, Il Divo, Royal National Orchestra of Scotland, London Sinfonietta, Philharmonia Orchestra and alongside renowned conductors including Semyon Bychkov, Marin Alsop and Sir Mark Elder.

Buck Brass Trio has enjoyed a considerable amount of coaching from many illustrious musicians such as Robert Hughes, Michael Dussek, Michael Thompson, Mark David, and Elgar Howarth. The Trio are grateful for the continued support of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.

Today, the ensemble is delighted to welcome Lucy Humphris on Trumpet and are excited to be making their debut as a Quartet.

I Fagiolini,and the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble perform the a Gabrieli madrgal for five voices, O, Beltà Rara (O, Rare Beauty) to give you a feel for Gabrieli as I did not find a matching recording:

Voluntary in A Minor

There remain two Weelkes Voluntaries for organ, both in A minor, so here is an opportunity to hear both of these short pieces. The 1977 Thomas Kney organ in St Thomas' Anglican Church, Belleville, Ontario, replaces a major Casavant instrument which was lost, with the church, in a fire.

On the left we hear Mathieu Latreille with Voluntary No 1,
while on the right Francine Nguyen-Savaria plays Voluntary No 2:

Henry Burr (1882-1941) was a Canadian singer who, under about 8 different pseudonyms, reckoned he made some 12,000 recordings! Here he is with the famous song that premiered at the Alhambra, Leicester Square:
