Jacqueline Phillips
Jacqueline Phillips is a much sought-after and respected solo, chamber and professional session cellist, work that has taken her around the UK and to many international venues. As a recitalist she has been on tour with her pianist to Dubai, Russia as well as halls and churches throughout the UK.
Her career began when she was 7. Within 2 years Jacqueline entered the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and then received a full scholarship to study at the prestigious Purcell Music School at the age of 12 . She studied with legendary teachers like Amaryllis Fleming, Joan Dickson and William Pleeth whilst at the Royal College of Music and the Julliard teacher, Aldot Perisot at the Banff Centre of the Arts in Canada, on a Yehudi Menuhin scholarship.
Her talent has led to winning many prizes including the Madame Suggia award, the first cello prize in the international competition, Premio Rovere d’Oro in Italy, and string finalist in the Young Musician of the Year and the Royal Overseas league competition.
She is an extraordinarily versatile musician with a polished technique and instinctive musical flair for a variety of genres. Such is her cool-headed versatility that she has been seen playing solo cello with lead man in Soft Cell band, Marc Almond, on his 2017 Concert Hall Tour and then a few days later , performing Shostakovich‘s Sonata with pianist Richard Black.
She regularly gives recitals in and around London including a recent performance of Russian music at the Arc Centre that you can view and listen to online !
Jacqueline has given many concerto performances including Boccherini’s B-flat concerto at the Purcell Room at the South bank and the Walton under the late great Norman Del Mar.
As well as a busy solo and chamber career, Jacqueline is highly regarded for her orchestral playing, performing with the BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, guest leading orchestras including the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the London Concert orchestra, among others.
Since October 2018, she is guest principal of Scottish Opera, performing Verdi’s Rigoletto, Janacek’s Katya Kabanova and Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Future engagements include a concerto appearance with the Hertford Symphony Orchestra in November of this year.

Richard Black
Richard Black’s work as a pianist takes in opera, the symphony orchestra, chamber music and song recitals. He has helped rehearse operas from Purcell to the 21st century. He is a familiar face at opera auditions, and he frequently accompanies students of every voice and instrument at Goldsmiths College.
In performance, Richard has played for singers at Wigmore Hall and St John’s Smith Square, as well as in New York, Paris and Luxembourg. He has accompanied a wide range of instrumental works and played in a variety of chamber ensembles. He has accompanied on several CDs and has broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
Richard is also an experienced recording engineer, producer and editor and a consultant on audio technology.

Their professional approach to that morning's rehearsal and the subsequent performance meant that the audience were amazed when Richard's answer to the question 'how long have you been working together as a duo ?' was 'just over two hours'.

There were two Jean Loeillet's. This is the one working in Ghent where they were born, while the other worked in London and was known as 'de Londres' or even as 'John Loeillet'. This has given musicologists a few headaches over the years, trying to agree who wrote what, with confusion coming from the fact that their works were published in both countries.
Here is the Adagio from Loeillet's Suite in B minor. It will give you a taste of the composer's work. These three players must be leaving school around now. They are the Trio Neutrino, Stuart Matthews, violin, Daniel Wade, cello and Yuyang Xie, piano, at the Young String Performers' Foundation, Ottawa, in September 2013. I wonder where they are headed next . . . (Yes, they still perform together)

This was an easy choice. We shall listen to Henry Myers, with pianist Gloria Engle. Henry and Gloria are both studying for their doctorates at Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, NY. Henry has a website here.
