Gwyn Owen

Originally from Bangor, North Wales, Gwyn started playing the cornet at the age of eight. He grew up playing in the local brass band tradition with the Menai Bridge and Beaumaris Bands, the Gwynedd & Mon County Youth Ensembles, later joining and becoming principal cornet of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales. After receiving initial trumpet lessons from Rhys Owens of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, he auditioned and accepted a full scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music. Following five years of study there, he has now graduated with a First Class Honours Masters degree.
Gwyn appeared frequently with the Academy Symphony Orchestra during his time there, most prominently as principal trumpet at the Royal Festival Hall on Remembrance Day 2014 playing Britten’s War Requiem. Previously, he had been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales for five years, his last two as Principal Trumpet.
As well as being Co-Principal Trumpet currently in the 2017 Southbank Sinfonia based in London, over the past two years Gwyn has appeared with the Orchestra of the Scottish Opera, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, Sinfonia Cymru and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.
Aside from orchestral playing, Gwyn is often in demand as a recital soloist, and has won Brass Solo competitions on several occasions at the National Eisteddfod of Wales - in 2016 he was awarded the Eisteddfod’s Blue Riband Instrumental Scholarship Prize for the best instrumentalist in all competitions.
Gwyn received tuition at the Royal Academy with Mark David, Rod Franks, Paul Beniston, Gareth Small, Robert Farley and John Hutchins, and participated in masterclasses with world renowned soloists including Hakan Hardenberger, Reinhold Friedrich, Eric Aubier and Anthony Plog.
Gwyn was the recipient of the first Mishcon de Reya Scholarship to the Academy to support his postgraduate study. He is also grateful to the James Pantyfedwen Foundation, Craxton Memorial Trust and The Countess of Munster Trust (Derek Butler Award) for financial assistance throughout the course.

Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca Taylor read music as Organ Scholar at Lincoln College, Oxford, studying with David Sanger. As both an organist and choral conductor she has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 & 4, made CD recordings and performed in the UK and abroad in venues including Westminster Abbey, St.George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, York Minster, Christ Church, Dublin, St Marks, Venice.
Since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music on the MA Piano Accompaniment course under Michael Dussek and Carole Presland, Rebecca Taylor has been increasingly in demand both as an accompanist and répétiteur. Whilst at the Academy, Rebecca was a prizewinner in the Rex Stephens Lieder Prize, a finalist in the Richard Lewis Song Competition and was highly commended in both the Major van Someron-Godfrey English Song Prize and the Scott Huxley Piano Accompaniment Competition. Rebecca was awarded a distinction in her LRAM diploma and was a member of the prestigious Academy Song Circle.
After graduating, Rebecca continued her training as a Junior Fellow Trainee Répétiteur and was also successful in gaining a place on the Solti Peretti Répétiteurs' Masterclass Course in 2014. As an accompanist, Rebecca’s reputation is growing following her success in winning the Maureen Lehane Accompanist Prize at Wigmore Hall. In June 2015 Rebecca accompanied the Welsh candidate in the Song Prize Competition of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World which was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and she also be performed a song recital at the Three Choirs Festival 2015.
As a répétiteur, Rebecca has worked on an wide range of operas, which include Tom Randle's Love me to Death; Ariodante,Handel; Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky. She regularly works on new music with composers, most recently a project with Laura Bowler and the playwright Edward Bond at the Royal Opera House. Rebecca’s work also has an international dimension in that she has performed across Europe and the Middle East at venues which include St Martin in the Fields, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Real Academia de Bellas Artes, Madrid, St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Macedonia Opera House, Skopje and Al Bustan in Muscat.
Rebecca is Director of Music at St.Philip's Earls Court Road where she is founder and Artistic Director for the SPECR Recital Series. She has recently been appointed accompanist of the Leeds Festival Chorus and is also Assistant Conductor and Pianist for Twickenham Choral Society.

The Christ Church organ was built by Hill, Norman & Beard in 1970 with 16 stops, using some pipes from previous organs plus some neo-baroque sounds typical of the 1960's and '70's (Chimney Flute and Fifteenth on open-foot voicing, like the Royal Festival Hall organ). In 1995, HNB moved some loud stops from the Great to a new double case in the nave, 6 stops were added, and the tone was refined. In summer 2015 the nave organ was re-voiced to produce a more robust tone. |

20th century American composer Vincent Persichetti wrote The Hollow Men, inspired by TS Eliot's poem of the same title, written in 1925 and reflecting the feelings in a post-WW1 Europe.

Here are two vesions of the same work - Bach's BWV 972 reworking of Vivaldi's Violin Concerto Harmonic Inspiration. On the left we hear Romain Leleu, trumpet and Ghislain Leroy at the organ of the Cathédrale de Nôtre-Dame-de-la-Treille (Our Lady of the Vine) in Lille, Northern France.
This 4-manual Danion-Gonzalez organ was originally installed in the Maison de la Radio, Paris and came to Lille in 2007 for the symbolic price of 1 euro.
