Buck Brass Trio
Buck Brass Trio is one of the leading young brass ensembles in the UK, and was formed in 2012 by students from London’s Royal Academy of Music. The members are Daniel Walton Trumpet, Timothy Ellis French Horn and Richard Buck Trombone.
The Trio has pioneered for a large amount of new repertoire for the Brass Trio, including transcriptions of works by Bach, Piazolla, Ibert, Beethoven, as well as collaborating with young and established composers.
The Trio have a busy performance and recording schedule and they have performed in prestigious venues including HM Treasury, London Guildhall, St James's Piccadilly and Southwark Cathedral. Members of the ensemble have enjoyed considerable experience working with groups such as the Britten-Pears Orchestra, National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain and London Sinfonietta as well as renowned conductors including Semyon Bychkov, Marin Alsop and Sir Mark Elder.
Buck Brass Trio has enjoyed a considerable amount of coaching from many illustrious musicians such as Robert Hughes, Michael Dussek, Michael Thompson, Mark David, and Elgar Howarth.
Each year the Trio produces a virtual Advent Calendar consisting of Traditional and Modern Christmas Music which attracts thousands of fans from all over the world. If you would like to follow the Calendar this year or find out more information about the Trio search www.facebook.com/BuckBrassTrio.
We are grateful to Alexei Watkins who is standing in for Timothy Ellis at short notice, and our best wishes go to Timothy today as he trials with the Royal National Orchestra of Scotland. It is always great news to hear that a student we have enjoyed listening to is moving on to the next stage of their career.

We will only hear one movement of the Beethoven trio in the live concert, but you have the opportunity to listen to the complete work. Here are two performances of Beethoven's Trio Op 87, which he wrote for two oboes and English horn.
So our first offering is a recording by oboists Heinz Holliger and Hans Elhorst, with Maurice Bourgue playing English Horn.

Not finding the combination of trumpet, horn and trombone online, let's instead listen to the work on strings.
Here, from the 9th Brazil Instrumental Festival, Unicamp 2010, are tutor Adriana Holtz
(cellist of the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra) with cello students Rennan Lindemute and Rafael Jesus:
Poulenc's trio sonata, written for horn, trumpet and trombone, is an absolute delight. Here are two different ways to listen to the work. On the left is a performance with the musical score for you to follow. On the right the recording comes from Kurt Civilette's faculty recital, with Rich Illman, and Ava Ordman, at Michigan State University's music faculty,
